Dover Planning Board Member T.C. McCourt Announces Run for Morris County Commissioner

Updated: Apr 22, 2021

DOVER, N.J. - Dover Planning Board Member Thomas “T.C.” McCourt announced today that he will seek the Democratic nomination for Morris County Commissioner.

“Our county government has been under one-party rule for nearly 50 years. This has left an entire generation of ideas devoid of representation, tens of thousands of voices silenced, and countless issues ignored. I think I speak for many when I say that it’s time for a change.”

McCourt moved to Morris County in 2018 with his husband Bryan. In that short time, he has made civic involvement a top priority. As a Planning Commissioner, McCourt has sought to balance the need for more development with the desires of the community and the abilities of existing infrastructure. He was appointed to the Morris County Heritage Commission in February of 2020, becoming the Commission’s youngest serving member and the first Dover resident to serve in the Commission’s 50-year history.

“When I ran for Alderman in 2019, I learned a lot. Most importantly, I learned how to listen. Above all, we need a Board of Commissioners that hears our residents. All of our residents.”

Since 2019, McCourt has become increasingly involved in the Morris County Democratic Committee (MCDC) and, in August, became the new Outreach Coordinator for the Morris County Young Democrats. He is also one of the founding members of the MCDC’s new LGBTQA+ Caucus and recently spearheaded the caucus’ successful inaugural fundraiser.

“All of this work, civic and political, has shown me one thing – we must raise our voices to implement the change we seek. Being quiet and just hoping for things to change on their own won’t cut it. We must open our eyes to the problems our county faces and fix them. Now.”
